So this is Christmas… and here we find ourselves, another year passed, yet again swamped in wrapping paper, holiday cards, parties, and oh the sweets, all the sweets! I must admit this is my favorite time of year. As a young girl my mother always went out of her way to make Christmastime magical for my siblings and myself and the magic of the season stayed with me, to this day. I love the purity of what it represents; the togetherness that all of the parties foster, the goodwill the season evokes in people. The peace and the hope that seem to fill the brisk December air fill my heart with a happiness that is unique to this time of year.
A mother myself now, the joy of the season is only magnified. There’s a saying that the only thing better than being a child at Christmas is being the parent of a child at Christmas. I couldn’t agree with this sentiment more. Watching my son as he counts down the days to Christmas Eve, (when our celebrations begin), overwhelms me with joy. His little body becoming overwhelmed with excitement and anticipation warms my soul.
While the sweets and parties and gifts are all wonderfully exciting, I find it of the utmost importance that my son know the true meaning of the season. A traditional Catholic family, our son knows why we celebrate Christmas. He understands we are celebrating the birth of our Heavenly Father. In addition to this though, my husband and I continue to stress the importance of the season and the Spirit of Giving. After all, when all is said is done-This Truly Is Christmas.
From Our Family to Yours,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
